Resumen
Using literary texts in foreign language teaching has been considered relevant to the development of language acquisition. However, choosing literary texts that are appropriate to beginner or pre-intermediate levels is a great challenge. In order to solve this problem, many publishers offer adaptations of classical literary works to be used in foreign language teaching. This essay aimed at analysing the adaptation of Shakespeare’s The Tempest (1611) to the Heinle Cengage Learning comics entitled The Tempest: the Graphic Novel (2011). In order to build a theoretical basis to this study, a bibliographical research on the shakespearean play and on the artistic process of adaptation has been done. Finally, after analyzing the graphic novel per se, it was concluded that the association of images, the simplified text e the media conventions resulted in an appropriate and involving literary text to be used in the classroom.
