Manifestações do duplo no romance “O perfume: a história de um assassino”

Abstract

The following work presents a brief approach of the Character Double or the other self occurrences in literature, having as the research object the book O Perfume: a história de um assassino, by the German writer Patrick Süskind. The research in-tends to identify manifestations of the Double in the narrative, specially, in the main character Jean-Baptiste Grenouille. Furthermore, it relates different areas of knowledge such as Psychology and Literature, presenting theories and concepts of the Double created by the first area and demonstrating occurrences or examples of the same theme in the second one. The relation established between Süskind’s book and other literary works is hereby carried out through theoretical references, pin-pointing possible causes or sources of this phenomenon.
