In the era of globalization, agile, efficient and effective media are basic needs of organizations. In recent times, through social networks, the Internet has revolutionized the daily lives of people by allowing the exchange of information and instant publications from anywhere in the world. In the corporate environment, such networks have been used by the Department of Human Resources as part of the competitive strategy. The use of social networks does not exclude the use of other methods, however it is an essential tool for recruiters and selectors. Through them, vacancies can be published online, reaching many users in a short period of time and at no cost. In addition, the virtual social networks make possible the analysis of the characteristics of the candidates before being invited for interviews. In this context, the objective of this study was to analyze the use and influence of social networks in the process of recruitment and selection. In order to achieve this goal, one semistructured exploratory research with six professionals was held. And the result of this phase as a basis, a quantitative survey was developed and distributed online by Brazil. The main discussions, it was revealed that each social network is used for different purposes, LinkedIn, for example, is used mainly to find technical information on the candidates and Facebook for behavioral information. The company's size and position of the recruiter or selector (operational, technical or managerial) influence the importance and usefulness that they lay on each virtual social network. In short, the survey was able to indicate which social networks are considered more important from the point of view of recruiters and selectors, how often they are used and reasons. In addition, permitted to present the relationship between this information and the positions of respondents, the size of their companies, advantages and general disadvantages regarding the use of such networks.
