Resumen
High-energy milling (HEM) is a mechanically activated method of obtaining fine and ultrafine powders. The powders are applied in material development, material release for analysis, and sample processing in chemical, pharmaceutical, and mineral industries, among others. The process result depends on the raw material, the type of mill and its operating parameters. The process in the planetary mill is characterized as HEM due to high centrifugal forces resulting from the general plane motion of its milling vessel. The objective of this project is to develop a planetary type high-energy mill for laboratory use. Such machine comprises a project to determine the constructive way, capability, and dimensioning of components such as machine and support elements, evaluation of effort, and fault mechanisms in order to verify the appropriateness of material, geometry and dimensions. The project of this planetary mill is composed of motor, pulleys, belt, hypocycloidal gear, disc, pitchers and their supports, axes, fastening elements, and structural protections. The load capacity of the mill jar is 167 [cm3], with pitcher output rotation in the range 0 to 800 [rpm] and velocity ratio 1: -2 from the disc to the pitcher, which meets a wide range of ball sizes and speeds allowing its use for different materials and milling needs. The user interface is simple and the risk areas are protected, complying with the Brazilian safety regulation 12 (NR12) of machinery and equipment safety at work.
