Resumen
The participation of women in sports has increased on a large scale in recent decades, this increase also increased research related to female individuals and their physical performance. Within the intrinsic legend to women, the menstrual cycle is one of the most complex. This study aimed to assess possible changes in levels of muscle strength during the menstrual and ovulatory phases of the menstrual cycle. Study participants were 10 women engaged in resistance training, with a mean age of 24,1 ± 2,4 years, mean weight 62.4 ± 3,8kg, mean height of 1,62 ± 0,04cm and BMI of 23,8 ± 1,3kg/m2, with regular menstrual cycle and users of oral contraceptives. The maximum muscle strength in the lower limbs was evaluated using a strength test, using a leg press device 45 and 1RM protocol Baechle and Earle (2000), the analysis of strength levels at each stage of the menstrual cycle was compared statistically by the "t" test (p = 0.05). The average muscle strength assessed in the test group during the menstrual phase was 240 ± 46,7kg and during the ovulatory phase was 253 ± 56,9kg, comparing the two media, it can be concluded that there was a statistically significant difference between the means analyzed. The results indicated that the muscle force may vary during the phases of the menstrual cycle.
