Resumen
The process of EDM or EDM (Electrical Discharge Machining) has wide applicability in materials machining situations with high hardness and resistance to abrasion and parts whose complexity makes it difficult to machining in conventional machines such as lathes and milling machines. The process is approached the EDM process for penetration performed in a IBH machine - 50A Hydro-matic. The work is to analyze the roughness of surfaces eroded by measuring three 3D roughness parameters: Sq (root mean square value of the points discussed in the sampling area), SDQ (root mean square of the surface slope within the sampling area) and SDS (number of peaks per unit area) - all evaluated by optical interferometry. The goal is to verify the influence of the following EDM input parameters: Wave on time (Ton), the wave off time (Toff), discharge current, which are directly linked to energy discharge and quality of surface finish obtained. From the measurements of the roughness is determined bandwidth parameter () which is dependent on the process for obtaining the surface and the working conditions used. The electrode used is electrolytic copper and the material was subjected to experimentation is the steel AISI D6 (VC 131). The choice of material is justified because of the wide applicability that it is cut in the manufacture of dies and molds for the production of plastic parts, thus having the optimum characteristics for the use of electro-discharge machining process.
