Resumen
WCM (World Class Manufacturing) is an integrated management system that seeks to increase the organization's competitiveness by continually improving processes and increasing value aggregation along the manufacturing chain, eliminating wastage and losses in the production flow. Structured in 10 technical pillars, it is the Focused Improvement pillar (FI) that must investigate the root cause of specific losses and treat them so that they do not occur any more, using appropriate techniques and tools defined from a prioritization matrix. A specific tool for setup reduction evaluated in this study is SMED, or Single Minute Exchange of Die. The methodology seeks to reduce machine downtime through focused field analysis. The case study was based on the application of SMED in a component machining line with high setup times, and had an average setup reduction of 32% by equipment and 54% of the total line setup time. This work resulted in a longer time available for machining parts, increasing the productivity and flexibility of the work center in a multinational company of electrical solutions.
