Resumen
The purpose of this paper is to explore how the use of Open Source Business Intelligence (BI) software can contribute to the licensing costs for organizations. This goal stands out in free software options for Business Intelligence that can eventually replace paid tools in certain contexts. This objective is reached through the demonstration of the functionalities of some tools chosen for analysis, which will be seen in detail and compared to each other. For this, a review of the literature on business intelligence was carried out, conceptualizing the main tools, their contexts and an explanation about Big Data. A qualitative methodology was used comparing three open source BI tools: Jaspersoft, Pentaho and SpagoBI. In the data analysis, 16 criteria were analyzed: versions, components, user licenses, documentation languages, performance, ad hoc queries, architecture, platform, technical support and documentation, scheduling, dashboards, report export, mobile device support, analysis predictive, cost and load data from different sources (Big Data). It is concluded that the open source tools mentioned in this work can be used, within their capabilities, to replace paid BI tools by presenting several functionalities compatible with those available in the market today. As future suggestions, it could be made more comparative analysis using the same criteria, but with both open source and paid tools.
