Resumen
The automotive industry market is very competitive and requires constantly improvement on quality, and productivity. This final project of Control and Automation Engineering major evaluates the quality and expected impacts on vehicles’ assembly line when into a change in the bumper assembly method is proposed. Two variants are taken into account: closed (D1) and opened front end (D2). The product quality is evaluated by dimensional variation analysis and the assembly line impacts are evaluated by discrete event simulation. The results of dimensional variation analysis show that the D2 assembly has the best quality indicators, given by the process capability and process capability of non-centered distribution. The results of assembly line simulation show that the cycle time is significantly changed by both the production mix - i.e., by the number of different models to be produced, and the production sequencing. Many scenarios are simulated with different mixes and production sequences.
