Abstract
With the disorderly growth of cities, the production of waste has been increasing considerably, and this becomes a big problem, especially in cities where there is no sanitary landfill. The objective of this work is to present how it is occurring to the destination of the solid waste of the municipality of Tuneiras do Oeste – PR at the present time. Although the sanitary landfill is already under construction complying with all the environmental, sanitary and economic criteria, it was verified that the municipal waste is currently deposited in an open pit without any environmental protection mechanism. Through the gravimetric composition, 25% of the solid waste in the municipality corresponds to recyclable waste, demonstrating the importance of the implementation of selective garbage collection that would reduce the waste by overloading the landfill and the future landfill, generating savings and being able to revert in income to associations. The research refers to the creation of an integrated solid waste management system, implementing the environmental education policy. Educate future generations to avoid consumerism, reduce, reuse, recycle, teach to have an ecological conscience, preserve natural resources, awaken correct actions, develop sustainable activities, are attitudes towards the environment and a life with more quality. Garbage can no longer be the big problem, becoming a source of jobs and raw materials for various sectors of the economy. But for all these solutions to be effective, the effective commitment of all, government and civil society, is needed in a joint effort for better environmental conditions.
