Resumen
Assessment of future energy demands as well as the necessity for updating and extending global and Brazilian energy matrixes open necessities for innovations that fill this opportunity. One of these possibilities is wind energy, that, in Brazil, has the domestic production regulated, bringing both the perspective of supplying households and selling energy surplus to the grid. In this regard, this work’s goal is to size a wind rotor through the Double Multiple Stream-tube Model (DMST). The effect of solidity, airfoil profile, aspect ratio and number of blades in a Darrius-H type wind turbine are studied. Then two wind rotors are sized: one to supply the average energy demand for a standard Brazilian house and another based on the maximum viable space available for domestic applications. The first one resulted in a rotor of 1,4 m of height and 2,8 m in diameter. The second one was able to supply 81,2 kWh/month, which represents 53% of the residential energy demand. It was concluded that the present wind rotor is able to supply only partially the energy for a standard household.
