Resumen
The meatpacking industry is one of the most important economically activities in Brazil, which generate large amounts of wastewater which, if not treated and properly disposed can result on water pollution. This study aimed to evaluate the efficiency of use of a activated charcoal filter pilot in the treatment of cattle slaughterhouse waste, intending to contribute and encourage simple techniques and low cost for this type of wastewater. The wastewater after biological treatment was subjected to a filter filled of coconut shell activated charcoal and subsequently evaluated the removal of ammoniacal nitrogen and phosphorus parameters. The results show that there was an average efficiency of 36.90% for the removal of ammonia and 37.69% for phosphorus.
