Resumen
The present Conclusion Course Paper deals with an analysis of the dialogism between points of the Christian biblical text and Beowulf, especially of the prose version made by J. R. R. Tolkien, in 2014, and translated by Ronald Kyrmse, in 2015, in a 2018 edition. For the realization of this research, notions of dialogism and intertextuality were examined, based on the studies by Mikhail Bakhtin (1997) (2006), who asserts deeply about dialogism, and by José Luiz Fiorin (2006), reader of Bakhtin’s dialogism and of intertextuality. It was also necessary to investigate J. R. R. Tolkien’s life and work and, in this sense, the researches of Humphrey Carpenter’s (2015) and of Michael White’s (2014), among other literary and history critics, were indispensable. Another point of great importance for this work was some of the studies already done on Beowulf’s text. In this sense, the researches of Michael Lapidge’s (2006) and of Donald Scragg’s (2013), among others, were verified. Thus, the main purpose of this work was to establish a parallel between biblical quotations from the New and Old Testaments and passages from Tolkien’s Beowulf, so that it was possible to analyze the possibility of dialogue between them. In this way, the influential relations of the Christian biblical scriptures were evidenced in the transcription of the epic and, consequently, in the work by J. R. R. Tolkien.
