Resumen
Monitoring of underwater oil wells operations is essential for the preservation of marine life and environmental safety, as well as assisting in optimizing production through reservoir management so that new sensing technologies are developed. This paper presents a study of the feasibility of using power line communication (PLC) in continuous monitoring processes of underwater oil wells for the transmission of data obtained by optical sensors installed in the wells without the need for new underwater wiring, owing to the difficulties of such installations. The study was conducted through tests simulating specific conditions based on the circumstances of the location of the wells and varying configurations such as transmission line characteristics, models, AV1 and AV2, of broadband over power lines modems (BPL) and OSI transport protocol (TCP and UDP). The results showed 10 MBps transmission rates, high when compared to other forms of data transmission by electrical wiring, indicating the possibility of using PLC for the application of optical sensing data transmission in underwater oil wells monitoring.
