Resumen
Inspired by theories that address argumentation in different textual modalities (ADAM, 2011; AMOSSY, 2008; 2017; in addition to aspects of Rhetoric and New Rhetoric, PERELMAN & OLBRECHTS-TYTECA, 1996), we take as a starting point that every discourse aims, in some way, to influence its interlocutor. In this perspective, the present work seeks to establish how Charles Chaplin elaborated the image of Jewish society and Adolf Hitler, throughout the period between the World Wars, represented, respectively, in the image of the Barber and the dictator Adenoid Hynkel, bringing data describing aspects of the ethos in the 1940 film “The Great Dictator”. The construction of ethos, an image that the speaker makes of himself, must always be consistent with a way in which the speaker seeks to lead his interlocutor, in an attempt to arouse certain emotions (AMOSSY, 2008). Based on this, this work makes an analysis of the movie through its two main characters that, despite being interpreted by the same actor, present clear ideological distinctions among themselves, leading to different positions. For the discussion, in addition to the notion of ethos, the process of discursive schematizing is used, in order to understand the part of the meanings generated when the movie is released, and also the notion of value, of and to discuss the types of emotions aroused by the movie.
