Resumen
Fire protection and safety is a large area in expansion, which has aroused the need to implement more effective measures against the inception and the spread of fire. In Paraná state, with the creation of new Fire Security and Panic Command's Code of the Fire Department, fire prevention standards are more comprehensive and stringent. Although there are more updated regulations for the protection of occupants of buildings, owners and entrepreneurs seem to be only concerned with meeting minimum requirements of the legislation, emphasizing the low cost of materials, equipment and facilities. This paper presents a research about metal industry companies located in the city of Ponta Grossa. Through questionnaire, it was possible to check if fire protection of buildings were implemented in order to fulfil the legislation, or if there was a prevention culture, focused on training, and awareness about the safety of workers, according to the Technician Procedure Standard of the Fire Department, NPT 017, Brazilian Standard NBR 14276:2006, and Standard of the Ministry of Labour and Employment, NR-23. Based on the results of the questionnaire, it was found a lack of knowledge about the rules of the new Security Fire Code and Panic of Paraná; a lack of practical training and contact with the standards NPT 017, NBR 14276 and NR-23; non-compliance of security measures as described on the fire prevention project of the buildings; maintenance or inspection of fire fighting equipment in terms established by Brazilian standards (NBR). Also, was possible to found a demand for security projects or plans for regularization of documents with public agencies. Training was appointed by the majority of companies as the most important measure for fire safety in the building, however, the results also confirmed that the fire brigade, essential for prevention and action in risky situations, can still be conditioned to meeting legal requirements.
