Resumen
The Six Sigma methodology is characterized as a powerful tool to reduce the variability of processes and products. Based on the application of the DMAIC method, Six Sigma projects make it possible to manage problems and propose solutions in a structured way. For the development of this study, the action research method was adopted through the execution of the DMAIC cycle in order to improve the stability of the coefficient of friction on the polyester and polyethylene faces of laminated coffee packages. In the first stage, a theoretical review of the concepts linked to Six Sigma and DMAIC was carried out. In the second stage, the five phases of the DMAIC Cycle were applied for understanding, planning and solving the root causes related to coefficient of friction instability, in which the main goal was to eliminate complaints and returns related to the problem under study. In the third stage, the results obtained and the opportunities for future improvement were listed. The project was considered successful as the main goal and the expected financial results were achieved based on a tenmonth monitoring of continuous supply. The scenario prior to the implementation of this project demonstrated that the characteristics under study that were critical for quality were beyond statistical control. After the application of DMAIC cycle, there was a significant evolution of stability and both characteristics were under statistical control. The result of the process capability index at 2.75 and the achievement of a level higher than Six Sigma in the analysis of the coefficient of friction on the polyester face are also worth to mention. As a result of the quality improvement, there was an increase in customer satisfaction and it was possible to leverage the average volumes invoiced in the product line by 96 percent.
