Resumen
New methodologies are being studied with natural coagulants to help the chemicals for water treatment. One of the natural reagents that has been presenting the most encouraging responses are extracts taken from the moringa seed, which have proteins that have coagulant potential. Polymers have also been extensively studied as auxiliaries in water clarification processes, and both agents, moringa and polymer, have properties that stand out in water treatment. In this scenario this work aims to evaluate the interaction of these coagulants in water treatment by associating them in different concentrations characterized as treatments: Treatment 1 100%
moringa and 0% polymer concentration; Treatment 2 80% and 20%; Treatment 3 60% and 40%; Treatment 4 40% and 60%; Treatment 5 20% and 80%; Treatment 6 0% and 100%. The tests were performed with the help of jartest equipment to simulate the coagulation, flocculation and sedimentation processes present in water treatment. The parameters analyzed were pH, electrical conductivity, total dissolved solids (TDS) and turbidity, measured in three different sedimentation times of 10.20 and 30 minutes. The pH, due to the properties of both coagulants used, did not undergo major changes during the analysis ranging from 5.55 to 5.91. The electrical conductivity and the total dissolved solids (TDS) increased a lot, in relation to the raw sample, with the moringa solution being a saline mixture and having great protein arrangements, varying from 4.28 to 0.44 for the electrical conductivity and 713 to 158 for the TDS between treatments 1 and 6. For turbidity the most efficient treatment analytically was 6 with 86% efficiency, however treatment 4 was chosen as the most efficient with 84% for being the sample with association between coagulants.
