O grupo fundamental da circunferência S1

Abstract

The aim of this work is to investigate the fundamental group of the circleS1. For that, a brief study will be done on homotopy theory, branch of the algebraic topology, area of mathematics which is intended to solve problems in general topological spaces with support of algebra. Intuitively, the fundamental group carries informations about the shape of a topological space, such as the number of “holes” or “pieces” that this topological space possess.
