Resumen
Environmental sanitation is essential for promoting quality of life, being considered a measure to promote public health, in addition to providing better management of water resources. The issue of poultry slaughterhouses becomes interesting for this research context, since this is an activity in full expansion and that adds a large amount of polluting agents to water bodies, and it is very pertinent to carry out studies that seek to identify more advanced technologies. efficient and adequate for the treatment of the effluents of these activities, aiming in general, improvements in the environmental condition and in the sustainable development. Thus, the present work aims to dimension and verify the use of Built Wetlands in the replacement of one of the stages of the Sewage Treatment Station - ETE from a quail slaughterhouse, located in the western region of Santa Catarina. Analyzes were carried out at the effluent treatment station from a quail slaughterhouse, which currently has 3 types of treatment. For the dimensioning of the wetland, we used the method that is associated with the degradation of carbonaceous organic matter in a first order kinetic model. Thus, it is concluded that the built wetlands are a very interesting technology when considering the treatment of effluents from this type of activity, taking into account the potential for improving water quality, without the need to use chemical substances. The implementation of this type of system becomes feasible in the studied Agroindustrial Unit, since it does not present any area limitations. Therefore, it is recommended to replace the polishing ponds with a wetland built with horizontal subsurface flow, as this replacement can improve the efficiency of removing BOD5, as there would be incorporation into the process, a new cycle of improvement in water quality already exists, with a removal rate of 75%, with efficiency of up to 80%.
