Resumen
Studies indicate that food waste in Brazil reaches 26 million tons per year, with plant residues such as stalk, rusks and leaves being discarded every day. Beetroot (Beta vulgaris L.) is one of the most cultivated vegetables in the country and its residues can be reused since it has a large amount of betalains, among other substances. The cosmetics industry seeks innovations, products with greater sustainability and also with fewer risks to human health, as many products found today use raw materials with heavy metals, in addition to other synthetic molecules. Through the identified problems, this work studied the possible use of an extract of beet husks to obtain pigments, which was later used to formulate a multifunctional cosmetic used to color the lips, face and above the eyes, called lip tint. With the same residue, a foam mat drying method was applied, in which a study was made of the possible use of this residue in the form of powder for the formulation of an exfoliating soap. Characterizations regarding moisture, total solids and pH were made for the residue, extract and powder obtained. Some specific characterizations were made for the extract, foam, powder and soap. The characterizations of moisture, total solids, pH and soluble solids were satisfactory, showing potential for the elaboration of cosmetics. The foam obtained a lower incorporation of air and the powder after tests showed to be hygroscopic. Thus, the soap did not show efficiency in terms of abrasiveness, but it is a sustainable product and according to the tests, it is suitable for use. The lip tint showed great pigmentation potential, with a strong color. as products from waste that would be discarded, the use of both extract and powder, should be studied, not only in the cosmetic industry, but also in other areas.
