Resumen
The Modern architecture popularized the use of concrete in construction, making ordinary Portland cement (OPC) one of the most consumed products of the twentieth century. The aim of the paper is to analyze the worksites and construction workers in relation to safety and hygiene regulations, by identifying the profile and knowledge of workers exposed to OPC. The case study examined 60 construction workers from 12 small, medium and large worksites in the city of Curitiba. Pre-prepared questionnaires were used to evaluate the working conditions and the knowledge of the workers regarding the health and safety regulations. The larger worksites were found having better results regarding the hygiene, safety, and industrialization of the construction process. Moreover, the workers on major worksites were better trained on health and safety rules, use of personal Protective Equipment (PPE) and personal care and hygiene. A possible explanation for these results might be that the major worksites having a visibility term and larger investments tend to be more supervised by the authorities of the sector.
