Resumen
The present study was to evaluate the development of calves from birth to weaning, as well as economic viability, when subjected to solid food commercial or homemade. The statistical design was completely randomized design, the treatments being formed according to birth order of animals. Weights were taken at birth, 15, 30, 45 and 60 days of life, being measured at this time: withers height, heart girth and length animal. All animals received the same amount of milk. The concentrate was offered to calves from the third day of life they are kept in individual houses. There was no significant difference between treatments for the parameters studied. Although there were no significant differences (P> 0.05) for any of the variables in the experiment, the numerical differences of consumption and weight gain among treatments confer, through the prism economic prospects of production with higher or lower chances of success, which is critical in the adoption of any technology of production, when we refer to small dairy farms, as was the case of this research.
