Studies of structural reliability are very common in the analysis of a civil structure. When it comes to structures and mechanical designs the same concepts are not used as often to define the safety of equipment and probability of his failure. This paper presents a simplified review on studies on methods for structural reliability analysis in mechanical design. Initially presenting general concepts on the subject, such as quantification of uncertainties and risk analysis in a project. They are addressed methods to calculate the probability of failure and reliability in structure as the First Order Reliability Method and Reliability Method of Second Order, which are derived from the Taylor expansions, and Monte Carlo simulation method. The efficiency of the methods is demonstrated through case studies about the structural reliability study projects or mechanical problems.
