Abstract

This paper presents a discussion of art education and its contribution to cognitive development of elementary school. Aims to study art as a tool in the teaching ofenvironmental education in Brazil, analyzing activities that can be used in environmental awareness and training of critical thinking of students from kindergarten and elementary school, enabling a look that gives real value to teaching art education for children. Thus, in this work, relevant to the teaching of art in education, including a brief history of art, the presence of the visual arts in Early Childhood Education and Elementary Education I and art as a tool for environmental education issues will be addressed. The result of this study is to seek the opinion of the authors that supported and wrote about this subject as well as realize that educators are not prepared to practice this activity. This research contributed to a reflection on the importance given to art education and the art as a tool for environmental education in the development of children who are in elementary school.
