Resumen
Dairy cattle production ended the year 2016 with 659.2 million liters produced and has great importance in the world economic scenario, where approximately 150 million families depend directly or indirectly on this activity. Thus, productivity in this sector has increased significantly in recent years and this increase is due to theuse of new echnologies and strategies, mainly in the animal ambience and animal nutrition. In nutrition, one of the most important foods is corn silage, because it has high nutritional value, and mainly, because it enables the supply of good quality food throughout the year. However, if your fabrication process isn’t performed correctly, these nutritional characteristics may be lower than expected, as well as increasing the cost of production. The cost is affected by all stages of production, from beforethe purchase of the inputs, to the cutting and storage of the material. The objective of this work was to determine the cost of production and silage quality in properties of southwestern Paraná. The work was done on fifteen properties, divided into threegroups according to the size of their area for silage production, five properties classified as Small (PP), which has up to five hectares for production, five Medium (PM), with an area larger than five and less than ten hectares, and five Grandes (PG), with a production area greater than ten hectares. The data were obtained through field research, where a semi-structured interview was made with the producers and through bromatological silage collection and analysis. After data collection and sample analysis, the data were grouped and analyzed qualitatively. And the results for the cost per hectare found for the productive units were: PP1: R$ 2,554.17, PP2: 4,674.00 R $, PP3: 4,027.08, PP4: R $ 3,425.42, PP5: 3,108.06 ; PM1: R $ 3,836.07, PM2: R $ 3,263.01, PM3: R $ 4,075.32, PM4: R $ 3,860.05, PM5: R $ 4,639.18; PG1: BRL 3,092.56, PG2: BRL 3,464.50, PG3: BRL 4,132.23, PG4: BRL 3,399.41 and PG5: 3,869.42. There were also no significant differences in quality between the silages analyzed. Thus, a return was made to producers about the cost and quality of their silage.
