Resumen
The Internet of Things is a concept and a technological paradigm that is used by several sources to describe the communication between smart objects through a wireless connection in networks called LPWAN (Low Power Wide Area Network). This paradigm allows these objects to be able, in a network, to interact with each other and, therefore, cooperate to create new applications, solve problems or achieve common goals. Some problems that the IoT (Internet of Things) faces is the distance between the end devices and the gateway and also the power consumption. The LoRaWAN network, in addition to being a technology with long range and low consumption, also offers significant traffic reduction, security and latency reduction. Due to these characteristics, the LoRaWAN network is more used every day that passes in the IoT area. The range of this network can reach up to 15 km away in rural areas, and 5 km in urban areas. This work shows the evaluation for the implantation of a LoRaWAN network in the city of Pato Branco, as a case study, demonstrating the viability of communication in this city. It also exposes the quality of communication between nodes and the performance according to the distance between them and the scattering factor, and defining how range and power depend on network parameters and the scenario in which they are located. The results obtained demonstrate the viability of the network in the municipality of Pato Branco, covering a considerable area, allowing different applications using this technology.
