Resumen
Brazil is a country that contrasts in its agroindustrial activities as well as in wood process, which generates a great quantity of residues. Most of the time, these residues are deposited inappropriately in the environment, generating negatives environmental impacts. In order to minimize these impacts, new ways of treatment, disposition and recovery of wastes to add value to the production chain are being considered.Have said that, this study researched the use of agricultural residues and wood shavings from sawmills to the production of briquettes to energy purposes. The residues were characterized using variables like density, moisture, volatile matter content, ash and fixed carbon of the collected wastes plus elemental analysis of waste and the calculus of the calorific value. The briquettes were produced in the Federal University of Technology. The press load varied from 1 to 6 tons in the waste compaction tests. The composition of the briquettes varied because of the agricultural residues and wood shavings. The tests were performed by statistical planning Outlining Central Composite Rotational, totalizing 11 trials. It was possible to observe that the load applied during compression was the variable that most influenced both the final size of the briquette, and the compressibility. With this project, it could be concluded that the used residues have great potential to generate energy because these residues presented: low moisture, being 12,64% to agricultural residues and 18,14% to wood shavings; low ash quantity, being 0,30%to agricultural residues and 0,0087% to wood shaving, and both residues presented high levels of volatiles, 76,98% to agricultural residues and 89,86% to wood shavings, as well as upper and lower calorific value of 19624.405 and 18249.147 kJ / kg , respectively, to agricultural waste and 23371.738 and 22068.58 kJ / kg for wood shavings.
