Abstract

This project follows a system engineering approach to aircraft design presented by Sadraey (2013) for the sizing of full autonomous video and image acquisition aircraft. A MATLAB code using techniques such as the Lifting Line Theory and the Matching Plot Technique size the wing, tail, control surfaces and engine. This components mass and moment of inertia are obtained in a SolidWorks model. This iterative process of sizing and modeling continues until the mass used to size the aircraft is equal to the mass obtained in the 3D model. As a result, the proposed aircraft has approximately 2.2kg, a range over 60 miles and flight time over 70 minutes.
