Una idea reiterada en los discursos presidenciales de Hugo Chávez es la inminente invasión a la República Bolivariana de Venezuela por parte de los Estados Unidos de Norteamérica y el regreso a la Cuarta República, lo que implicaría una vuelta a prácticas clientelares y corruptas de anteriores gobiernos; de allí la necesidad de armarse y cohesionarse para la defensa de la revolución. La ponencia describe los mecanismos que han posibilitado la construcción social del miedo y caracteriza algunas reacciones sociales. En el acercamiento al problema se combinaron conceptos de la ciencia política con los de la historia reciente, la metodología utilizada es el análisis de la prensa y de las intervenciones presidenciales.A continuous idea in Hugo Chavez’s presidential speeches is the imminent invasion to the Bolivarian Republic of Venezuela on behalf of the United States of North America and the return of the Fourth Republic, which will cause the return to the old government practices of corruption; from there the need to arm themselves and unite in order to defend the revolution. This work describes the mechanisms that make the social construction of fear that characterize some social reactions. In the approach to the problem we use political science and recent history concepts, the used methodology are the analysis of the press and the presidential interventions.75-92semestral
