Se pretende analizar la política de concesiones petroleras en Venezuela durante una parte del gobierno de Juan Vicente Gómez 1908-1922; conocer cómo fueron los inicios del negocio petrolero en Venezuela durante 1908, las principales empresas concesionarias 1920-1922 y las relaciones de Venezuela con las transnacionales. Estas concesiones fueron otorgadas tanto a particulares como a empresas petroleras extranjeras sin mayor control; se quiere conocer si detrás del derrocamiento del presidente Cipriano Castro por parte de Juan Vicente Gómez estaba presente la acción de las empresas concesionarias y su respectivo gobierno, interesados en la exploración y explotación petrolera, situación con la que Castro no estaba de acuerdo. Estas intenciones estaban apuntaladas hacia el interés de instaurar en el gobierno a alguien que favoreciera a tales empresas concesionarias de una manera dócil y amplía a favor de las mismas. Para conocer detalles, se aplicó el método de revisión historiográfica sobre el tema, así como lecturas analíticas de diferentes documentos que estudian el periodo de gobierno de Juan Vicente Gómez. En conclusión, fue evidente las facilidades y el beneplácito de este gobierno ante la las practicas petroleras ejercidas por las compañías petroleras internacionales, que actuaron con libertad, ajustando las condiciones del negocio a su conveniencia con muy poca oposición por parte del estado. Es difícil asegurar la intención marcada de Gómez hacia un interés personal, pero si su decisión de darle a estas compañías el mayor beneficio por parte del estado durante esa época.It is intended to analyze the policy of oil concessions in Venezuela during a part of the government of Juan Vicente Gómez 1908-1922; to know how the beginnings of the oil business in Venezuela were during 1908, the main concessionaire companies 1920-1922 and the relations of Venezuela with the transnationals. These concessions were granted to both individuals and foreign oil companies without much control; it is wanted to know if behind the overthrow of President Cipriano Castro by Juan Vicente Gómez was present the action of the concessionaire companies and their respective government, interested in oil exploration and exploitation, a situation with which Castro did not agree. These intentions were underpinned by the interest of establishing in the government someone who would favor such concessionaires in a docile and expand in favor of them. To know details, the method of historiographical review on the subject was applied, as well as analytical readings of different documents that study the period of government of Juan Vicente Gómez. In conclusion, it was evident the facilities and the approval of this government before the oil practices exercised by the international oil companies, which acted freely, adjusting the conditions of the business to their convenience with very little opposition from the state.
