dc.descriptionResumen Este trabajo expone la imagen de América Latina en el pensamiento de Gabriela Mistral, reflejado en las cartas privadas que ella le remitió a Alfonso Reyes, Victoria Ocampo, Joaquín García Monge y Esther de Cáceres, intelectuales que, al igual que ella, se esforzaron por entender y resolver los principales dilemas que enfrentaba la región durante la primera mitad del siglo XX. El trabajo se realiza desde un enfoque cualitativo, recogiendo y estudiando los datos contenidos en su co­rrespondencia íntima. Los puntos a tratar son: sus ideas indigenistas, sus críticas a la región, sus planteamientos internacionalistas, sus rei­vindicaciones desde la Liga de las Naciones, su apoyo a la literatura como medio difusor y lo que pensaba sobre Estados Unidos. Los resultados permiten concluir que Mistral pensaba la región no sólo desde un punto de vista romántico, poético e idílico, sino también realista.Abstract This paper exposes the image of Latin America in the thought of Gabriela Mistral, reflected in her private letters that she sent to Alfonso Reyes, Victoria Ocampo, Joaquín García Monge and Esther de Cáceres, intellectuals who, like her, strug­gled to understand and solve the dilemmas facing in the region during the first half of the twentieth century. It is elaborated from a qualitative approach, collec­ting and studying the data contained in its intimate correspondence. The points to be discussed are: her ideas about the region, her internationalist approaches, her claims from the League of Nations, her supporting to the literature as a diffuser means and her notions about United States. The results allow us to conclude that Mistral thought the region not only from a romantic, poetic and idyllic point of view, but also realistic.es-ES
