This article intends the struggle in defense of human rights held at Brazilian Congress during military rule (1964-1984), with the emphasis on the performance, in the 1970-1974 term, of Lysâneas Maciel, a member of the "autênticos" group of the opposition party, the Brazilian Democratic Movement (MDB). It tries to show how, in a context of ideological radicalization, with clandestine political organizations on one side, and military repressive action on the other, the "autênticos" were able to turn the MDB into a real opposition parliamentary front. This front has played a major role in the democratic process that began at the end of the decade with wide and unrestricted amnesty.O trabalho se propõe a analisar a luta em defesa dos direitos humanos travada no Congresso brasileiro durante o regime militar (1964-1984), tendo por base a atuação de Lysâneas Maciel, deputado "autêntico" do Movimento Democrático Brasileiro (MDB), na legislatura 1970-1974. O texto procura mostra como, em um contexto político de radicalização ideológica, marcado de um lado pela atuação das organizações políticas clandestinas, e de outro pela ação repressiva dos militares, os "autênticos" conseguiram transformar o Parlamento em um campo legítimo de luta pelo retorno à democracia, e o MDB, numa verdadeira frente parlamentar de oposição. Essa "frente" teve papel fundamental no processo de abertura democrática que se iniciou no final da década, com a anistia ampla e irrestrita.
