This study analyzes the net fund raising of investment funds in the period of the COVID-19 pandemic, separating them into two groups: investment funds linked to the five largest banks in Brazil: Banco do Brasil, Itaú, Bradesco, Santander and Caixa; and other investment managers (independent assets). The ANBIMA class funds were selected for fixed income, multimarket and stock funds. The sample is composed of 2.363 funds and the analyzed period is from January 2015 to July 2021, the pandemic milestone being January 2020. Both groups of funds have unique characteristics that refer to the type of manager: large bank or independent. To reduce the heterogeneity of the groups, the Propensity Score Matching procedure was used and the matching was analyzed using the difference of means test (Welch). The covariates used were equity, age and volatility. This intermediate matching procedure proved to be significant in homogenizing the groups. The results indicate that, on average, the managers linked to the large banks attracted more investments than the other assets from 2020 onwards during the pandemic period. However, only for multimarket and fixed income was the result statistically significant, while for the equity class the result was neutral. For the fixed income class, a new analysis was carried out, removing Banco do Brasil and performing again the methodological procedures to mitigate the large effect of the bank and verify if it had a relevant influence on the other banks of this group. Even so, the result indicates that net funding of this class of large banks was positive, but to a lesser extent if compared to the independent managers.
