We present a single-shot method for phase recovery based on the transport of irradiance equation (TIE). The system utilizes a beamsplitter and mirrors to achieve two simultaneous (laterally separated) images with different defocusing degrees, which are acquired with a digital camera. The proposed method provides a simple achromatic system for one-shot phase imaging with potential application for phase recovery of dynamic samples. Validation experiments are presented. dc.description.abstractPallas, M.",,"2010",,"Resveratrol (RESV) exerts important pharmacological effects on human health: in addition to its beneficial effects on type 2 diabetes and cardiovascular diseases, it also modulates neuronal energy homeostasis and shows antiaging properties. Although it clearly has free radical scavenger properties, the mechanisms involved in these beneficial effects are not fully understood. In this regard, one area of major interest concerns the effects of RESV on the activity of sirtuin 1 (SIRT1), an NAD+-dependent histone deacetylase that has been implicated in aging. Indeed, the role of SIRT1 is currently the subject of intense research due to the antiaging properties of RESV, which increases life span in various organisms ranging from yeast to rodents. In addition, when RESV is administered in experimental animal models of neurological disorders, it has similar beneficial effects to caloric restriction. SIRT1 activation could thus constitute a potential strategic target in neurodegenerative diseases and in disorders involving disturbances in glucose homeostasis, as well as in dyslipidaemias or cardiovascular diseases. Therefore, small SIRT1 activators such as SRT501, SRT2104, and SRT2379, which are currently undergoing clinical trials, could be potential drugs for the treatment of type 2 diabetes, obesity, and metabolic syndrome, among other disorders. This review summarises current knowledge about the biological functions of SIRT1 in aging and aging-associated diseases and discusses its potential as a pharmacological target. © 2010 Elsevier B.V.",,,,,,"10.1016/j.bbagrm.2010.06.005",,,,"http://www.scopus.com/inward/record.url?eid=2-s2.0-78649861860&partnerID=40&md5=832f3ec6122e3f63eaedcc8e315d78dd

Zarate-Del Valle, P.F.",,"2004",,"Lake Chapala is the largest natural water body in Mexico and also one of the most important shallow lakes in Latin America. For the past several years it has suffered various environmental problems such as the upstream overuse of water, contamination, and sedimentation. For the past 10 years the lake has had less than 50 percent of its historical water level over the past century. No criteria are reported in the literature that establish a water storage volume that will guarantee water quality conditions necessary for the survival of the lake. After determining the behavior of total solids concentrations in relation to the variations in the lake's depth, we proposed a minimum water column height of 5.0 m, representing a storage volume of about 5,000 Mm3. This volume would result in the recommended water quality standards for total dissolved solids. Calculated distribution maps show that the total solids concentration in the lake has increased since the end of the 1970s. The solids are primarily concentrated in the eastern part of the lake, as a consequence of the high solids discharged from the Lerma River, its main tributary.",,,,,,,,,"http://hdl.handle.net/20.500.12104/44633","http://www.scopus.com/inward/record.url?eid=2-s2.0-1842422870&partnerID=40&md5=8d15de9f6cc7710a9452876a9174d8da",,,,,,"1",,"Journal of the American Water Resources Association",,"97
