La presente investigación tuvo como objetivo determinar el efecto de la Biocolina sobre
la calidad de leche y el comportamiento productivo pre y postparto de vacas lecheras.
60 vacas en preparto se distribuyeron al azar en: tratamiento con colina protegida (TCP)
o control y tratamiento con biocolina (TB), con 30 repeticiones cada uno; TCP recibió
0,06 kg/vaca/día de colina protegida y TB recibió 0,02 kg/vaca/día de biocolina. La
biocolina se mezcló a una premezcla, adicionándose finalmente a la ración totalmente
mezclada (RTM). Se evaluó producción de calostro y, producción de leche en tres
ordeños diarios por 60 días; peso y talla del ternero al nacimiento, porcentajes de grasa,
proteína y solidos no grasos (SNG). Se monitoreó la condición corporal en preparto,
parto, inicio de lactancia y a 30 y 60 días post parto, asimismo, se evaluó problemas
metabólicos y la relación beneficio/costo. En la producción de leche, cantidad de
calostro, peso y talla del ternero y condición corporal no se encontró diferencias
estadísticas (p > 0,05) entre tratamientos. En calidad de leche se observó diferencias
estadísticas (p < 0,05) en el porcentaje de proteína del TCP frente al TB, y una
diferencia numérica en el porcentaje de grasa en el TB. No se presentaron problemas
metabólicos, pero si problemas infecciosos. El TB obtuvo una mejor relación
beneficio/costo. Los resultados permiten concluir que la biocolina no tuvo efecto
significativo sobre la calidad de leche y el comportamiento productivo pre y postparto
en vacas lecheras, pero si, presentó un mejor beneficio económico.
