Resumen
Vaginal infections are the abnormal proliferation of bacteria in the vaginal flora, among which there is a higher risk. The colonization of Streptococcus agalactiae in the birth canal is more likely to produce a preterm birth due to associated risk factors that causes vertical transmission. Early neonatal sepsis occurs within the first 72 hours or after it, with a high rate of morbidity and mortality. The objective of this study is to establish the relationship between group B beta hemolytic streptococci and vaginal infections in pregnant women in the last trimester of pregnancy by compiling bibliographical sources for the timely prevention of neonatal sepsis. A descriptive analytical study was carried out in 24 women from the 35th to the 37th week of pregnancy using the qualitative-quantitative method: qualitative because the presence or absence of Gram-positive bacteria in the Gram stain was identified based on the vaginal exudate intake. and quantitative because through the planting in Cald Todd Hewitt the growth of colonies of Streptococcus agalactiae was quantified. In addition, maternal and neonatal risk factors associated with infections in the newborn were identified, as well as establishing control and prevention measures through conferences and training for pregnant women in the third trimester. Conclusion: There is a direct relationship in most of the pregnant women of the last trimester where Streptococcus agalactiae colonizes the birth canal causing severe complications in the neonate.
