Resumen
Thyrotoxicosis is the result of a variety of entities, is due specifically to the increase in the synthesis and secretion of circulating hormones of the thyroid, the three major hormones that are altered are thyroxine (T4), triiodothyronine (T3) and ( TSH) Thyroid stimulating hormone. The clinic of Tirotoxicosis is more neurological type anxiety, irritability, depression, mania or hypomania, psychosis among others. The diagnosis is based on the completion of an exhaustive clinical history, an adequate physical examination, accompanied by thyroid hormone tests: thyroxine T4 and elevated T3 triiodothyronine with decreased TSH, the most common complication is severe disease, treatment of this entity goes more to regulate the levels of thyroid hormones the most used include antithyroid drugs (methimazole, propylthiouracil), radioactive iodine and thyroidectomy. Objective: Know the diagnosis and treatment of thyrotoxicosis by reviewing scientific articles. Method: Bibliographic review of academic articles updated with randomized controlled studies of the last 5 years, obtained in Pubmed, ScienceDirect, Google academic. Conclusions: Thyrotoxicosis is an entity produced by an excessive level of circulating thyroid hormones that leads to multiple complications the most frequent serious disease, an adequate early diagnosis with the realization of a good clinical history and tests of thyroid hormones in blood T3, T4 high and a low TSH, in severe cases the ultrasound, scintigraphy and tomography. The treatment is based on the application of antithyroid drugs, beta-blockers, radioactive iodine and thyroidectomy.
