Resumen
The Respiratory Distress Syndrome is a pathology characterized by surfactant deficiency and occurs in premature infants due to pulmonary immaturity. At the national level there are 3,000 cases of Respiratory Distress Syndrome, affecting mainly 60% of newborns with low weight. The lack of prevention of RDS, prematurity and lack of fetal lung maturity in the case of threat of preterm delivery are the main responsible for the development of this pathology. The objective of this work is to apply the nursing care process using the NANDA, NIC and NOC taxonomy and to relate the Marjory Gordon Theory based on the eleven functional patterns for the identification and prioritization of newborn health problems. The methodology used is the collection of information which has been obtained through journals, books and articles of a scientific nature. In conclusion, the application of the nursing care process in infants with Respiratory Distress Syndrome improves their health status and quality of life.
