Resumen
Emotional intelligence (EI) is a necessary skill for the development of the human being,
it provides tools for the adaptation of individuals to the changing events that they go through,
however, socio-emotional education has not been adequately worked in the educational field
and, during these events due to the pandemic, the affect on emotions in students is
undeniable, as they have to change their daily dynamics due to the crisis caused by COVID-
19. The general objective of the research work is to determine the relationship between
emotional intelligence and depression, in students of the Clinical Psychology career of the
University of Cuenca, Ecuador in the COVID-19 pandemic, in addition to describing the
dimensions of IE and the severity of depressive symptoms among students who suffered from
covid-19 and those who did not. The study follows a non-experimental, cross-sectional and
descriptive-correlational quantitative approach. We worked with a sample of 51 students
calculated statistically, which was obtained from the research project of external funds
described in the methodology section. The instruments used were the WLEIS-S for emotional
intelligence and the Beck depression inventory version II and a sociodemographic record.
The results were that emotional intelligence and depression have a negative correlation, that
is, the higher EI, the lower the depressive symptomatological severity, in addition to knowing
that the evaluation of one's own emotions is the most developed dimension and, by the On
the contrary, emotional regulation is the least developed.
