Universities with sustainable systems in the environment are becoming more frequent, this is due in large measure to the increase in the level of people's awareness of the environmental impacts generated by their activities. The University of Cuenca seeking to achieve the same objective has proposed to use ISO 14001 to implement an Environmental Management System in all its faculties.
Considering that one of the requirements of the standard is to identify and control its environmental aspects, the present work is dedicated to the identification of environmental aspects and the evaluation of the environmental impacts present in the Faculty of Chemical Sciences of the University of Cueca, to serve as a contribution to the implementation of the Environmental Management System.
The method of identification and evaluation applied has been designed by the Environmental Management Unit of the Planning Department of the University of Cuenca. The identification of environmental aspects is done through a survey of information and the evaluation of the impacts is done by the Leopold Matrix method.
Among the main environmental impacts found are climate change and greenhouse effect with the highest severity of -55.96, degradation of soil quality with a severity of -41.10, degradation of surface water quality with a Severity of -28.02, the degradation of the ambient air quality with a severity of -13.68 and the effect on the health of the people -10,26.
