Resumen
The Semiotics I educational book is the result of an investigation based on the didactic experience of recent years in the chair that bears the same name and that are part of the current curriculum of the School of Design of the Faculty of Arts of the University from Cuenca.
The object of study of Semiotics I focuses on the relationship between the world of signs and graphic design. This teaching book shows this relationship, and they propose semiotics as one of the most important theoretical and epistemological foundations for the production and analysis of visual messages. This work is based on an interdisciplinary context, in which Semiotics as a theory merges with the practice of design and the creation of images is integrated into the infinite process of interpretation and representation of signs.
The job of a designer is to create signs. When something is designed, a strategic solution to a communicational problem is proposed, the result of this process is observed in the signs whose expression and content have the clear intention of meaning. Design is the intention made sign. In this book we will find an account of the basic principles of semiotics, the science that studies the signs from the vision of their main authors, analyzes the arguments that will serve as a conceptualization tool in the exercise of the production of signs and messages visuals, as is Graphic Design.
With the development of this teaching book, it is expected that the chair of Semiotics I will ultimately strengthen the profile of the Graphic Design career, giving the student the opportunity to improve his personal expressiveness and critical thinking, as well as his contribution to the social, intercultural, productive and service processes of the region and the country in relation to Design. This teaching book favors the student in the sense that their production is committed and responsible for the improvement of the quality of life.
Finally, having the teaching book for the chair of Semiotics I, will help to fulfill the learning achievements proposed by the subject and the Design career, giving the student the ability to identify the necessary theoretical foundations about Semiotics and its relationship with visual signs through the study of their main authors. Based on the main concepts and theoretical postulates of semiotics, these concepts should be related to the creation of visual messages, which in other words are nothing more than the interpretation and representation of signs.
In short, this teaching book will help the student to develop his capacity for argumentation for the production of Graphic Design and image in connotative and denotative terms through the use of visual language, in order to develop in it an optimal level of analysis and Criticism of design as a true communicational fact.
