Sexual assertiveness is the ability of a human being to initiate desired sexual behaviors,
reject unwanted sexual behaviors, prevention of unwanted pregnancies and sexually
transmitted diseases. It is a subject of relevant study due to the relationship with the physical
and mental health of people, considering that the context in which the research was carried
out is characterized by roles, stereotypes, religious influences and. The general objective of
this study was to measure the levels of sexual assertiveness in homosexual men in the city of
Cuenca, this research has a quantitative research approach with descriptive scope, 40
homosexual men aged between 19 and 40 years old participated with an average of 27.7
years. The instruments used for the research were the Sexual Assertiveness Scale (SAS) and
the Sexual Assertiveness Questionnaire (SAQ-W), both in their adaptation to Spanish. The
most relevant results indicate that 51.28% of the participants have a higher average level of
sexual assertiveness, which indicates that they have favorable sexual behaviors; followed by a
medium level in 38.46%, who present difficulties in terms of having healthy behaviors in
sexual areas; Continuing with the high level and the lower average level by 5.13%
respectively, for the percentage belonging to the high level, there are no difficulties while for
the percentage representing the low level the difficulties exists difficulties for initiate, reject
and negotiate protection methods. In conclusion, the sexual assertiveness levels in
homosexual men in this study belong to the upper middle level, despite the sociocultural
context influences and in front in results, There are healthy behaviours in sexual assertiveness.
