Anxiety disorders (AD) are one of the most common psychiatric disorders in children as they are not treated at the right time, it could affect the behavior of the person, for this reason this was done investigation.
Objective: To determine the prevalence of emotional disorders related to anxiety in older children 8 years in “Cazadores de los Rios” school, which is located in Cuenca city, during period from March to July 2016.
Methodology: This research was descriptive quantitative type of cross section and the universe was made up of 130 students from 8 to 12 years who are enrolled in the educational institution.
Material and Methods: The information was obtained by applying the test Screen for Child Anxiety Related Disorders (SCARED) CHILD, and a demographic survey.
The data were analyzed in Microsoft Excel by performing frequency tables and percentages to describe the information found.
Results: Predominate children 10 years old with 26.67%, female children with 56.30%, from urban with 77, 78%, urban residence with 52%. According to questionnaire scores separation anxiety was the highest with 28.34% of the total, followed by social anxiety disorder with 22.58% and panic disorder with 17.51%. Which they occurred less with school phobia were 15.90% and generalized anxiety disorder with 15.67%.
Conclusion: The research shows that the prevalence of disorders or emotional disorders is high, residence and precedence are considered as a protective factor for affective disorders, is related to characteristics of the environment surrounding children
