ABSTRACT
The Breast self-examination is the initial step in screening for breast cancer early, their practice does not diminish mortality, encourages women to take care of your health, Knowledge, attitudes and practices of AEM, are low in all levels and especially in the rural population. Main objective: To determine the knowledge, attitude and practice of breast self-examination in women in rural areas. Cuenca 2014 Methodology: A descriptive study was conducted on a sample of 305 rural women aged 20-60 years by randomization rural parishes. A questionnaire was used, determining the socio-demographic variables, knowledge about breast self-examination, attitudes and behaviors related to self-examination practices Results: was obtained a mean. 69.2% are between 1 and 3 children, primary education 54.1%, 60.0% engaged in household chores. 9.5% had a family history of breast disease. About 48.9 % reported knowledge to be examined breast, nipple and armpits, 29% considered to do a self-examination monthly and, 19.6% to do self-examination after menstruation, 95% have a positive attitude; unfounded fears in 90%, 48.9 % makes a regular practice of this procedure.
