Resumen
Diabetes is a chronic disease increasingly frequent, people with the diagnosis of diabetes react with stress because they consider it a chronic and disabling disease, therefore, it is necessary to establish certain coping resources to handle external or internal demands of the individual. The objective of this research was to describe the coping strategies most used by middle adults diagnosed with type 2 diabetes. The methodological process followed a quantitative approach, with a non-experimental design of descriptive scope, the population size was 50 adults diagnosed with type 2 diabetes. A sociodemographic sheet and the Coping Strategies Inventory (CSI) were used. Male and female patients older than 35 years were included and patients who were diagnosed with a mental disorder or cognitive impairment were excluded. The study was based on the ethical principles established by the APA. In this research it was shown that the most used strategy in an inadequate way by the participants was the desiderative thinking and with an adequate management this is the cognitive restructuring and problem solving. Similarly, there is consistency with the results of other investigations since it is concluded that there is a similarity with the coping strategies used by patients at a general level, such as desiderative thinking and cognitive restructuring, it is recommended that in the future a intervention plan where you can train people to deal with their problems properly.
