Resumen
Background: Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder occurs as a consequence of exposure to a traumatic event, characterized by re-experimentation of trauma, hypervigilance and avoidance of stimuli that allow recall of the event.
Objective: To determine the factors associated with posttraumatic stress disorder in Canoa, Province of Manabí, 2017.
Methods: It is a Quantitative Analytical Cross-Cutting Study conducted in Canoa to the victims of the Earthquake, with a sample of 300 people aged 15 to 49 years, through the Davidson Trauma Scale the PTSD could be identified. In the analysis the SPSS software was used by means of frequencies and graphs and the mean was obtained. For the association between PTSD and variables we used Chi-square and Odds Ratio (OR).
Results: In the sample of 300 people, 56% (n = 168) presented PTSD. According to the severity of the symptoms, the mild degree prevails in both sexes with 25.0% (n = 43) in women and 31.3% (n = 40) in men. The variables that showed association with PTSD and were shown as risk factors when obtaining the OR are: Sex, with women being 3.03 times more susceptible (OR = 3.03, 95% CI 1.88- 4.87, p = 0.000) died with 2.42 times more risk (OR = 2.42, 95% CI = 1.29-4.53, p = 0.005).
Conclusion: The variables that most correlate with PTSD are the sex and deceased relatives.
