Resumen
Objective: To determine the prevalence and risk factors for back pain in older people of 18 years of the canton Cuenca, 2014.
Materials and methods: Descriptive study (cross), the sample was stratified random, the universe considered corresponded to the entire population over 18 years of the city of Cuenca.
COPCORD Questionnaire was applied to a sample population of 2500 inhabitants cluster data obtained through household interviews. The analysis was performed using SPSS version 15.0.
Results: The prevalence of low back pain is 8.5% (213); about risk factors, Age: ≤ 20 years (RP 0.443 (95% CI 0.205 to 0.956), p: 0.033); and 21-29 years (95% CI RP 0.626 (.422-.928), p: 0.019); Residence: urban area (PR 0.62 95% CI (.446-.861), p: 0.004); and Occupation: have light work (RP 0.518 (95% CI 0.307 to 0.874), p: 0.01) are protective factors while Residence: living in a rural area (RP 1.163 (95% CI 1.161 to 2.240), p : 0.004); Occupation: not having a current job (RP 1.612 (95% CI 1.025 to 2.536), p: 0.037) and married Marital status (RP 1.45 (95% CI 1.079 to 1.949), p: 0.013 are risk factors for developing lumbalgia.
Conclusion: The prevalence of low back pain in people over 18 living in the canton Cuenca is 8.5%, with risk factors living in a rural area; not having a current job and marital status married.
