Resumen
Cuenca’s Historic Center predominant activities include: commerce, city administration, service management, among others. However, the use of housing has been lost through the years. This abandonment impairs the whole city, as people seek to establish their new homes in outlying areas, causing disintegration and spatial dispersion of activities, altering the proper growth of the city. Also, one of the biggest problems the historic center has is that it is not able to develop as a living organism, having a combined use of housing and commerce, allowing the area to be active all the time. Livability is essential for keeping Historic Centers and it’s good health.
Cuenca is no exception and it’s necessary to return to this area of the city, more intensive residential function. For these reasons and by way of study, it’s been decided to make a design project of architectural models multifamily housing on vacant lots in the First Order area of the Cuenca’s Historical Center First Order, not only respecting municipal regulations, but also applying theregulations by BACS ensamble!, developed by the Investigation Space and Population Department through Sustainable Cities at the University of Cuenca LlactaLab group, which defends the possibility of generating sustainable compact neighborhoods in consolidated areas of the city, to help build a different city model than the present one, where the human being the center of reflexion.
