The results of a case-control study among azelaic acid and hydroquinone in the treatment of melasma, conducted in 60 patients attending the outpatient dermatology Vicente Corral Moscoso Hospital, in 1998, which come in a range comprendidada aged between 15 and 60 years, with more common 25 to 39 years old, female [90 percent] while in rural areas [10 percent], from urban areas by ninety percent while areas 10 percent rural, working in open spaces 68.3 percent compared to those working in enclosed spaces 31.6 percent, the most frequent location the center-facial with 62.7 percent and the prevailing entensidad Grade II: brown spot -amarillenta [68.3 percent]. When comparing the efficacy of treatment, we observed that azelaic acid, in the first 20 days, healing is 30.7 percent, remains the same as when the time is prolonged twice, instead with hydroquinone, 20 days , healing occurs in 17.6 percent, a percentage that increases to 58.8 percent when treatment was extended to 40 days.
